Hello

I'm Sam, and I am a Fantasy author! I've written three novels and just published my debut novel, The Spark Within. YA fantasy romance is my jam. I love to read and write in that genre. I invite you to get to know me and learn how I got into writing as somebody who didn't even like English class. If you connect with me or my writing in the slightest, stick around and follow my journey! I promise you won't be disappointed.

Family Life

I grew up in Houston, TX, and married my first love when I was nineteen. We met while visiting my dad in Oregon the summer before college and were married nine months later. I know, I know. That's crazy! But you don't realize that he and I --we were made for each other. I can't explain it, we're just two halves of a very weird puzzle. I draw much inspiration from our relationship and how well he treats me. Three kids and eleven years later, he still worships the ground I walk on! He is my number one support. When I lose hope of ever getting published, his faith in me keeps me going. We lived in Idaho for seven years before settling in Oregon. Southern Oregon is beautiful, and the setting of my debut novel. If you have ever wanted to visit, read my book, and I'm certain you will be transported here!

My boys

We started our family two years into college. I was young but so ready to be a mom. It's all I had ever wanted. I graduated with a degree in preschool education with a baby in tow. As we added two more miracles - making me a certified boy mom for life - I decided to become a Stay-at-Home Mom. Our home is chaotic, loud, and messy but full of laughter, love, and silliness. They are nine, six, and three and huge mama's boys. It's hard getting a moment alone to write. I often try to write during "quiet time" and after bedtime. They are my entire life, and I love being their mom.

Interests

I LOVE books. That is pretty much a given for any writer, but I haven't always been that way. It wasn't until middle school, when I picked up Twilight that I became a true book fanatic. It just takes that one special book to addict you for life. I stopped reading for a while when I married and became a new mom. My life was so different, and it took a while to adjust. Reading Harry Potter for the first time got me back into books. I love to be in nature when I'm not reading or writing. Exploring my gorgeous state inspired my debut novel. I also love movies, anything from a Marvel to a chick flick. My favorite food is sweet pork burritos from Costa Vida. And if you haven't noticed, I love pink! With a household of boys, I may have to overcompensate a little with the girliness wherever I can get it.

So, how did I start writing?

Being a mom is incredibly rewarding but can also take a lot out of you if you don't have other outlets. I didn't have any hobbies for a long time. I gave my boys 100% of me. I'll let you in on a secret - you can still be a wonderful mom without giving them every part of you. It's okay to do something for you! It took me six years to figure that out and another two years to learn who I was outside of motherhood. That is when I started writing. I had always wanted to write a book, but because I didn't have a certified education in it, I felt like I shouldn't even try. At the time, I didn't realize that was imposter syndrome, which likes to lurk around when you least expect it - still. But I didn't even love English class, for crying out loud! Despite all that, something pushed me to do it. I am Christian and believe Jesus Christ can guide us toward a happier life if we let him. So I let him! What's the worst that could happen? Nobody actually has to read my writing - took me another year to get over that anxiety hurdle. I started writing for fun and found a passion for it. The words flowed easily; the stories came out of nowhere. I was shocked. I'm honestly not that eloquent of a speaker, but with written words, it's different. My social anxiety doesn't get in the way anymore. Through writing, I found me - the real me. I am a writer, an author, a mother, and most of all, a daughter of a loving Heavenly Father who wants us to follow our dreams.
